off we go to alaska

it is now 6:30 am and we are off, to alaska. ( do we look like the beverly hillbillies to you? ) oops, we are missing the rocking chair on the top of the camper.
so, our plan is to travel enough miles each day to get us to our cabin in 6 days but we forgot to ask mother nature, the biggest mother of them all, if our plans were realistic and what about traffic in salt lake city. interesting how life tends to take you where and how you are supposed to go anyway.
the day was beautiful and an easy drive to flagstaff, at least for me as i wasn't doing the driving. the only surprise was when rita decided that she should sit in john's lap, while we were on the move and she pushed on the open window button and the back window flew down and she almost flew out at 80 miles an hour, good save for me, i didn't think anyone could escape their seatbelt that quickly. the only problem was when i broke my middle toe on my right foot in the process. one day soon it will heal.
we made it to kanab, ut for a late lunch and a nice rest for the girls and for us. it is surprising how tired your ass can get just sitting. good thing we have them with us as i think we escaped blood clots and sleepiness having to stop with them for walks and potty breaks when we got gas.
on our way out of kanab we were stopped at a canyon as an enormous rv had burned, when i mean burned i mean melted the frame into the asphalt. there is a message there but who knows what it is. rv's are a hazard? don't drive in canyons when you are carrying your house with you? don't smoke while driving your house around? i guess there are lots of lessons. what do you think?
more driving, more driving, more driving and we arrived at our first nights rest and the first time we used our brand new slide in camper. the trimmed down version which forces us to spend time outside or we would turn the trip into a wrestling match when you consider we had us and the 2 girls and more supplies than anyone should really carry in their brand new slide in camper. we stayed in a rather overused, near the freeway, koa campground run by very friendly people.
